Holiday party
Twenty-seven of our extended family members of Ramona Forum attended our 2008 year-end party at the Sizzler Restaurant.
The highlight of the evening was the awarding of Ramona Forum Annual Peace and Justice Award to Megan Escalona for her courage to stand up for justice and fairness to oppose Proposition 8 in the face of a strong pro-proposition 8 sentiment in Ramona. The citation said:
“In Recognition of Courage Shown by Many Ramona High Students
Standing Strong Against the Injustice of California Proposition 8
The Ramona Forum Presents This Award to
Megan Escalona
The Ramona Forum family of progressive individuals enjoyed dinner, and watched the movie ‘Across The Universe’. At the meeting the radiating message was that, like all families, we are all committed to helping each other.
Maybe it’s true…All we need is love.
We also celebrated the election results with forty-five pf us gathering at Ron’s house. We all noted, as our President, Dave Patterson, spoke of our booth at Ramona Youth Fair; our demonstrations every Sunday for progressive causes like against the war, impeachment of Bush and Cheney for their abuse of power and violation of the constitution, voting for Change, in favor of affordable healthcare, cleaner environment and awareness for global warming and conservation of energy.
We could not help thinking about the gathering four years ago of seven progressives comprising the Ramona Forum at Patterson’s house on Sixth Street. They formed a bond of friendship and laid a foundation of progressive agenda in Ramona. The contrast today is remarkable!
Tireless efforts of Alice, Linda and Penny to decorate the room and provide presents for each table made the evening very enjoyable.
Here are few pictures.

There are more cadid camera type of pictures, which I rather not publish. Here are few more innocent (!) ones:

ELECTION CELEBRATION PARTY
The day after the 2008 Presidential election and the day after President-elect Obama’s Grant Park speech, Ramona Forum members met at the beautiful home of Ron and Mariette, on Wednesday November 5, 2008, to celebrate the victory of Change and Hope.
More than thirty happy Forum members were present. Local author Ralph Cates was also there. Lots of foods and drinks. In addition to the huge amount of food and drink arranged by our host Ron and Mariette, everybody brought something they had made or some drinks for the occasion. We did not see anybody got drunk, but everybody just kept on eating, until the end of the party!
It was really a celebration. Our very sincere and happy thanks to Ron and Mariette.
Demonstration November 9, 2008
Here are some pictures of our Sunday November 9, 2008 demonstration on the theme, “Thank You America for Making the Right Choice”. There was an interesting incident: While passing through Ramona, a San Diegan couple saw us demonstrating and stopped by to demonstrate with us! They grabbed whatever extra sign we had and stayed with us for some time. Here they are with our Linda.

Another picture of the same day.
Few more pictures of our “No on 8″ demonstration.
These are our Cathy and Linda.
There was an incident at last Sunday’s (October 26) demonstration. Ron took the video on Dave’s camera and Dave posted it on youtube. The incident was nothing major, yet it demonstrates once more how ignorant and intolerant some of us are. Watch it.
Third Presidential Debate Party on October 16, 2008
Sixteen (16) members of the Ramona Forum met at Dave Patterson’s home to watch the last Obama-McCain Presidential debate. Everybody brought some foods to share. Dave supplied al sorts of drinks. There were moans when McCain hurled some cheap shots at Obama. After some general comments on debate, there was general discussion on the community garden.
We had an enthusiastic thirteen (13) at the demonstration today (October 19, 2008). In between recognizing our supporters, there were some animated discussion about the debate and Colin Powell’s endorsement of Obama
